Dr. Roman Placzek
Executive Director of the North Carolina Bach Festival Don Martin
Professor Donald Martin helped found the NC Bach Festival in 1979. He is a former member of the NC Symphony and Santa Fe Opera Orchestras. He was formerly head of instrumental music for the Catholic Diocese of Raleigh and has been Professor of Clarinet and Saxophone at Campbell University since 1999. He toured Germany and Austria in 2017 with the Sandhills Wind Symphony and Chamber Players. Robin Morace
Pianist Robin Morace holds degrees in performance and composition from the State University of New York at Fredonia, where he studied with the renowned Bach specialist Fr. Seán Duggan, OSB. He presently studies both modern piano and historical keyboard instruments with Dr. Andrew Willis at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. His education has been supplemented by summer classes in Québec, Switzerland, and the Czech Republic; recently, he was also invited by the Chopin Institute to study the interpretation of Chopin’s music on the original pianos of the time in Radziejowice, Poland. Robin has given lecture-recitals and performances across North America—including at the National Music Museum, McGill University, and Oberlin Conservatory—as well as in Europe. Upcoming performances include the music of Chopin—on a piano which Chopin himself played—at the opening of a new music museum in South Carolina, as well as late eighteenth century chamber music on period instruments at the University of Michigan. |
